During this pandemic time, I’ve been trying to find glimmers of hope and happiness, I have to admit, some days it’s difficult to do. But then I’ll glance up from my desk in my home office and see the birds sitting at the feeder that I put on the window during the time I was finishing seminary from Berea.
On days that are not incredibly hot or humid mom and I have our windows open and I can hear the birds in various parts of our house. They give me so much happiness, seeing them fly so gracefully around our yard and how they don’t mind sharing the yard with the rabbits, chipmunks and dodging the hose from the little boy that lives next door. Did anyone else become an avid bird watcher during this stay at home time?
Mom and I have also started using our back deck more too. Have been eating more meals out there, reading books, gardening and talking with our neighbors over the fence. Some mornings I’ll take my cup of coffee and the devotional that I am working on to our deck and listen to the neighborhood waking up.
I’ve also been thinking a lot about Mister Rogers. I grew up with him. Many afternoons after mom had picked me up from daycare or my grandparents we would come home and curl up on the couch together and watch an episode of Mister Rogers Neighborhood.
I wonder how he would explain all that is going on in the world, our country to the children and adults watching. While we cannot turn to him each afternoon anymore, we can turn to his words. Our prayer for this week is one of his poems from the book A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood: The Poetry of Mister Rogers.
If you get the chance, check on the movie A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, it came out last November and stars Tom Hanks. It is available to rent or purchase on Amazon Video.
I pray that this week lands gently for you all.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Megan

Our Prayer for the week:
I Love to Shine
Mister Rogers

I love to shine, I love to shine
I love to let what’s in me
Shine outside.
I love to shine, I love to shine
I love to let what’s in me
Shine outside.
The world needs all the light
That we can muster
Each moon and star and comet
In the sky.
We add to all the world
Our special luster
So shine on, friends
And never question why.
We love to shine,
We love to shine,
We love to let what’s in us
Shine outside.
We love to let what’s in us
Shine outside.
