I think it is proper to introduce myself a bit to all of you.
In 1997 I was ordained as a deacon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Iceland. Few years earlier the Presiding Lutheran Bishop in the country had created a committee to restore the order of deacons in the church, and The University of Iceland had formed an undergraduate program in theology with a focus on deacon studies.
The first deacons after the restoration had been ordained in 1995, and I was the tenth deacon and the first male. Before my ordination I had worked at Christian non-profits and at Christian Summer Camps for some years.
Since my ordination as a deacon I have taken on various tasks in three countries on two continents, both in churches and in Christian non-profit organisations.
In 2018 I began conversations with the United Church of Christ of becoming a pastor in the UCC, and in the Fall of 2020 I was approved for ordination pending call. The conversations with UCC led me to become pastor here at Church of the Redeemer UMC.
I am married to Jenny Brynjarsdottir (pronounced Yennie) and we have two children, a 15 year old son, Tomas, a student at Shaker Heights High School and Anna (22) a recent graduate from Cornell University and an incoming PhD student at THE Ohio State University. We have been living in Shaker Heights since 2013.
When I am not having fun with you at COR, I work on various projects for non-profit organisations in Iceland. My largest contracts are with The Icelandic Bible Society and YMCA/YWCA in Iceland.
I look forward to our time together. In the weeks and months to come we will get to know each other and we will learn how God has and how God can and will influence all our lives.
In the midst of all we do, let’s always remember.
For you, [God], are with me.
