Will you come and follow me?
Happy Tuesday Church,
It was so good to see all of your smiling faces on Sunday at Zoom Church. January is starting to wind down and before we know it, February will be here. Again, this email has a lot of information in it, please make sure you read all of it and if you feel inclined, answer the question at the end again. Was fun hearing some of your favorite Girl Scout Cookies last week.
This Sunday we will be learning more about those that were called to serve beside Jesus. Next week on January 31st you will all be hearing from Carolyn Cacho Bowman who will be leading you all in worship as I am off. And then on February 7th we will hear from Torrianna Foster who will be preaching for us from North Carolina. Torrianna is a 2019 graduate from MTSO,where she graduated with a Master of Divinity with a focus on Womanist and Feminst Ethics. I am so excited to share our pulpit with her and for you all to meet one of the people that helped me through seminary. Next week we will have an introduction from Torrianna so that you all might get to know her a bit more before she worships with us on the 7th.
On February 14th we will celebrate Jazz Sunday. While it will be different than in years past, we will still be honoring the traditions of the service. The worship team would like to invite you to have a cupcake or donut or other sweet treat to eat during Coffee Hour. While it won’t be the same as sharing in King Cake together, we thought this would be a fun way to still share in a meal together. While the Alleluia is taken out of the sanctuary, we would like to play a video that has everyone in it. If you have pictures from church would you please share them with me? Or would you take a picture of yourself with a sign that says “Alleluia” and send it to me.
On February 17th we will start off the season of Lent with our Ash Wednesday service. This service will still be virtual and be held on Zoom. The week leading up to Ash Wednesday you will be able to stop up at church and pick up your Ashes and your Lent materials. If you would like this brought to you, please let me know.
Also on February 17th, we will be starting our Lenten Book Study. If you have been wanting to join us on Wednesday mornings, this is the perfect time to start! We will be reading the book “Entering the Passion of Jesus” by Amy-Jill Levine. If you would like to join us, please let me know.
Tomorrow, January 20th, I will be working from home. If you need to get a hold of me, please email me or call my cell phone, that number can be found at the bottom of this email.
Thursday January 28th begins my time off. I will be off the 28th through February 1st. I will be back in the office on Tuesday February 2nd. Emails and phone calls will be returned at that time. Carolyn Cacho Bowman and Phil Holland will be the contacts if you need anything. Church of the Savior will be covering any pastoral needs during that time.
And now for your question: what is your favorite hymn?
Scriptures for this week: Jonah 3:1-5, 1 Corinthians 7:29-31, Mark 1:14-20
Our prayer for this week:
Lord of time fulfilled,
who was not born an angel
but walked the common earth:
with those you called by the lakeside
may we share your mission
to bring good news to all,
to let the world know
that God is among us;
through Jesus Christ, the one who reigns.
Amen.
And your extra bonus question: Do you know what hymn the subject line from the weekly email is from? And if yes, what hymn is it?
May this week land gently on us all.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Megan
